The Hurricanes agreed to terms on a four-year, $11.2-million deal with their captain.
While on paper this seems great - Staal is a low-event bottom-six defensively-responsible centre, he is already 35, and will be 39 when this deal expires
Knowing that his game has already regressed significantly, this deal could be a disaster for the cup-hopeful Hurricanes.
