During a recent segment on Sportsnet, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been actively exploring the trade market. Specifically the goaltending market.
"The Leafs have dipped their toes in the goaltending market," reported Friedman on the Saturday Headlines
The Maple Leafs' interest in goaltenders comes from Joseph Woll's injury and the struggles of Ilya Samsonov. While Toronto is exploring its options, Friedman noted that the team would prefer not to make a trade if possible.
The insider also shared that teams with a surplus between the pipes are asking for significant returns in negotiations. This means that the Maple Leafs would need to part with substantial assets to acquire a goaltender, who may only serve as a temporary solution until Joseph Woll returns from his injury.
