The organization of the 2024 Paris Olympics has resulted in the anger of viewers and far worse for many participating athletes. Among those most wronged, however, is Team USA's Jordan Chiles, who dominated in the women's gymnastic floor routine. After a judging error was accounted for, she was moved ahead of Ana Barbosu into third place overall, earning her a bronze medal. However, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation filed a report that alleged the point discrepancy inquiry was submitted four seconds late, resulting in the IOC's decision to strip Jordan Chiles of her medal.
Jordan Chiles soon became the subject of racist rhetoric across the internet. Upon this news, USA Gymnastics released a statement against the online attacks and vowed to appeal to CAS to reinstate Jordan Chiles' bronze medal status. Soon after, they claimed to have received video evidence proving both Team USA inquiries were made at 47 and 55 seconds respectively, both within the one-minute time allowance.
Despite new video proof detailing that all procedures were properly followed, USA Gymnastics gave an unfortunate update on their appeal process. The CAS does not allow for any reconsideration, even with new evidence. They still intend to go through every possible avenue to get Jordan Chiles her ward.
Though this news is heartbreaking, there is still hope to right these wrongs, especially with USA Gymnastics and fans dedicated to bringing justice to Jordan Chiles. However, with the countless controversies and endless falderal of the 2024 Paris Olympics, who knows what could come of another terrible situation?
