Elliotte Friedman confirms two teams nearly acquired Martin Necas from the Carolina Hurricanes
This afternoon a new report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that multiple teams were close to trading for Martin Necas from the Carolina Hurricanes.
With the NHL offseason beginning to wrap up insiders and reporters are starting to dig deeper into deals that were done earlier in the offseason. Today this was done with the Martin Necas trade rumors. For much of the summer it was rumored he would be dealt by the Carolina Hurricanes.
Instead eventually at the end of July, Martin Necas decided to sign a contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes. The two-year extension came as a shock to many people.
Now a couple of months later NHL insider Elliotte Friedman decided to add more context to the situation. According to his sources, two teams were far down the path of trying to trade for Martin Necas.

During a rare offseason edition of his 32 Thoughts articles, Elliotte Friedman spoke about the Martin Necas situation. He confirmed that several teams were interested in Martin Necas before he signed his extension. Two teams in particular that were leading the pack on negotiations were the Columbus Blue Jackets and Winnipeg Jets.
Both the Blue Jackets and Jets are teams looking to take the next step as an organization. The Blue Jackets are trying to get their young core back into the playoffs while the Jets are trying to finally get to the Stanley Cup Finals. The addition of Martin Necas would have been a major boost to these goals.
Despite having interest neither team was able to get a deal done and Martin Necas will remain a Carolina Hurricane. With only a two-year extension we could hear Martin Necas trade rumors start back up again sooner rather than later.
