The Chicago Blackhawks lost their first two games of the 2024-25 NHL season and we can already see some signs of frustration within the locker room. They suffered a 5-2 loss against the Utah HC on Tuesday, and last night, gave up a 1-0 lead against the Winnipeg Jets to lose in overtime.
The team, led by captain Nick Foligno, is in a much different place than last year. They made a lot of key acquisitions to help Bedard win, such as Tyler Bertuzzi, Alec Martinez, and Teuvo Teraveinen. Now, the team's in a position to start thinking about winning, but things haven't turned in their favor yet.
Last night, with just over a minute left in the third period, the Jets' forward Mark Scheifele scored the game-tying goal to force overtime. Minutes later, he did it again by scoring the OT goal.
Check out Scheifele's goals in the videos below:
Following the game, 30-year-old veteran defenseman Seth Jones sent a message to his teammates. He said it's not good enough to play 59 good minutes in a game if you want to win.
In Jones' words:
Entering his 13th season in the NHL, Jones wants to see his team improve and get closer to a playoff contention position. In his career, he played 799 games for the Nashville Predators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Blackhawks. He scored 406 points in that time, including 90 goals. However, he only took part in 37 playoff games, explaining why he wants his team to get better.
That comment will resonate in the locker room, and players will likely make sure they bring all they can for the next 60 minutes on the ice tonight against the Edmonton Oilers.
