Paul Maurice is one of the longest tenured Head Coaches in the entire NHL, serving behind the bench every year since 1995, and after breaking the record for most wins as a Head Coach without a Stanley Cup, he broke that drought just a few months ago. At 57 years of age, Maurice's NHL future was somewhat up in the air after the success, but on Tuesday, the Panthers made an official announcement that is sure to thrill fans.
According to reports, Maurice has signed a multi-year deal that will keep him with the Florida Panthers for several more years to come, and after reaching back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, this was the only move that made sense. Back in 2022, Maurice's deal with the Panthers came in at just under $4 million per season, but after the success they've had in Florida, it's easy to assume that the veteran coach has got a massive pay rise.
In over 1,800 NHL games as a Head Coach, Maurice's record is an impressive one, putting together a 869-736-144 record with 99 ties before shootouts became a regular occurence in the NHL, and with 11 playoff appearances and the Stanley Cup, he has solidified himself as one of the best coaches the game has ever seen. It's unclear how many years Maurice will be sticking around in Florida for, but with a deep, talented team that may stick together for quite some time, it's likely we'll see him as a Panther for at least another three seasons, and if the success continues, don't be surprised to see him stick around.
