Former Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland's likely new NHL job leaked by Elliotte Friedman
When Ken Holland was moved on from the Edmonton Oilers, it was unclear what his future in the NHL would look like, and now Elliotte Friedman may have an answer.
After years of failing to put together a Stanley Cup winning group around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the Edmonton Oilers finally moved on from Ken Holland this summer. Not long after Holland left Edmonton, he was quickly linked to a new role in Columbus, but with Don Waddell taking over, Holland's future in the NHL is seemingly up in the air.
That may not be the case for long however, as top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that if Holland can't find a role for a specific team, there's one lined up for him.
During his latest 32 Thoughts article, Friedman reveals that NHL Hockey Operations have talked to Holland about a potential role with the league, and while it's currently unclear what that would be, it would be another huge role for the veteran.
At 68-years of age, Holland has been crucial to the team building of not only the Oilers, but the Detroit Red Wings too, being the General Manager for three Stanley Cups during a lengthy tenure in the Motor City. After inheriting a roster that had Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl however, he failed to push them forward, and with just one Stanley Cup Finals appearance in his five-year tenure, it made sense to move on from him.
Still, Holland is regarded as one of the best minds in hockey, and given his influence around the league, it appears to be just a matter of time until he takes on a new role, whatever that may be.
