The Pittsburgh Penguins are off to an awful start early in the 2024/25 season, and at this point, it seems as though everyone in the organization is taking heat for their 3-6-1 record through 10 games. Perhaps no one more than goaltender Tristan Jarry, whose future is now completely up in the air after the team demoted him to the AHL recently.
Unfortunately for the Penguins, there's little they can do to get out of Jarry's five-year contract, which has three years remaining after the 2024/25 season, paying him over $5 million annually. That contract has begun to look worse and worse, and now Kyle Dubas is taking heat from a surprising place for handing the 29-year old goaltender that contract.
On social media, Dubas' grandmother called him out for signing that contract in shocking fashion, stating that it's time for the Penguins to move on from Jarry, which appears to be the popular thought process among fans of the team.
Unfortunately for Dubas, his family and Penguins fans, given that Jarry has posted a 5.47 GAA and an .836 save percentage through three games, there may not be a whole lot the team can do to get away from the deal. With over three years left on the contract, there's few teams in the NHL that would even think about taking that on, and if they did, Pittsburgh would need to give away assets to do so, leaving them in a very tough position.
