Vancouver Canucks' Mark Friedman rushed to hospital after scary on-ice collision

Vancouver Canucks player Mark Friedman was rushed to hospital last night after a horrible collision, and now an update on his health has just been provided.

Abbotsford Canucks defenseman Mark Friedman, 28, has been released from the hospital and will continue to be evaluated medically, according to a team statement on Wednesday.

Friedman suffered a head injury in the third period of Abbotsford's 3-0 win over the Tucson Roadrunners on Tuesday. The Toronto-born player was skating through the offensive slot when he was hit in the head by Tucson player Montana Onyebuchi.

Immediately after the hit, Friedman went down onto the ice and later was taken off on a stretcher and sent to the hospital for observation. Paramedics were called to the ice, and fortunately, Friedman could be seen moving his arms and legs as paramedics assessed his condition.

Moments before the hit, Friedman had gotten an assist on a John Stevens goal, which opened the scoring of the game in the third period. With one goal and four assists in five games, Friedman currently co-leads the Abbotsford Canucks in points this season.

A third-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014, Friedman joined the Vancouver Canucks last year in a trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He re-signed with Vancouver on a one-year contract in June before being waived at the start of this season and sent to AHL Abbotsford. In 88 career NHL games over six seasons with the Flyers, Penguins, and Canucks, Friedman has four goals and 13 points.
