According to the reporter Mikael Lalancette, Blais fell and hit his head on the ice during a scrum. After the impact, Blais started to convulse and had to be stretchered off the ice. Fortunately, Blais was conscious when he left the rink.
Read a translated version of Lalancette's report here:
The incident occurred with two minutes left in the third period when the score was already 8-2 for the Drakkar. After Blais' injury, the referees decided to end the game on the spot. We don't often see hockey games end before the regular 60 minutes, but sometimes, special circumstances force the referees to make that call. It's safe to say that seeing their teammate leave the ice after convulsing when they were already trailing 8-2 must not have been easy. Blais teammates all likely wanted to leave after witnessing such an incident.
Fortunately, later in the evening, the Gatineau Olympiques shared in a medical update that Blais was taken to a local hospital by precaution for further tests. The organization added that the player was responsive and alert:
Blais, a 6-foot defenseman, entered his second season in the QMJHL this year. In 12 games so far this season, he scored two assists. Last season, he scored six points in 55 games.
The player will be eligible to be drafted in the NHL at the 2026 Draft. Meanwhile, he must focus on getting back healthy and performing well on the ice.
