A tough loss to the Carolina Hurricanes last night clearly left John Tortorella, head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, in no mood to answer questions from reporters. Tortorella was involved in another classic "Torts" moment as he dismissed questions with one-word answers and refused to follow up.
The Philadelphia Flyers, who recently traded away a young, promising defenceman, were keeping pace with the powerhouse Carolina Hurricanes last night, tied 4-4 going into the last minute of the third period. Everything came crumbling down when the Canes' Martin Necas scored with 30 seconds left, and Carolina added an empty-netter to win 6-4.
After the game ended, John Tortorella came out to answer questions from the Philly media. His answers were "no," "yup," "I'm not going to dissect it," and «okay." He then promptly turned around and walked away.
It's not the first time John Tortorella has done something like this, and it's very unlikely to be the last. When he's not pleased with his team's effort, Torts has no issue wearing it on his sleeve. You can love it or hate it, but you can never accuse Tortorella of being inconsistent. Torts has been watched closely since the Flyers added first-round draft pick Matvei Michkov to the lineup to see how he would interact with the talented, young rookie. He had no problem telling reporters there won't be a "Mich-Show" this season. Another classic Tortorella moment in what has been a number of them over the years.
