The little guy's name is Archie and he is in training to be a service dog for a veteran when he grows up and is matched with an owner.
In recent years, it has become commonplace for NHL teams to help train service animals as the loud and exciting environment at hockey games provides a great place where the pups can become accustomed to loud environments that can often prove to be stressful for people with noise or light sensitivities.
It should be noted that the team announced the move on Veteran's day which is a great gesture to veterans and the community as a whole.
In fact, the club specifically partnered with a non-profit organization called America's VetDogs, who partner former U.S. service members and first responders with service animals at no cost to the beneficiaries.
Obviously, this is a great cause that should be celebrated. Good on the Utah HC for going the extra mile to thank our troops this year.
After the initial announcement, Utah HC took the time to make another post dedicated to Archie, showing off all his cuteness to their fans.
They did a photoshoot with the pup in various locations around Delta center featuring common hockey paraphernalia such as pucks and sticks. Just look at the little guy!
Hopefully, this will become a standing tradition for the team. After all, Archie will be all grown up and ready for his future human before we know it. Once he's left the organization there will undoubtedly be some fans that feel a void in the arena until they bring in another ankle biter to run around.
Other teams have already been doing this so it would not come as a surprise. Regardless, be sure to visit Delta center this season for a chance to meet Archie yourself!
