It was a chilling scene tonight in Philadelphia as NHL referee Mitch Dunning collided with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson.

Dunning was then stretchered off the ice, and rushed to hospital for testing.

The NHL released the following statement following this scary event:

Referee Mitch Dunning has been taken to hospital for precautionary reasons following a collision in the Avalanche/Flyers game. All neurological signs are normal, he is fully communicative and can move all his extremities.

Following a freak collision with defenseman Josh Manson of the Colorado Avalanche, who won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2022, Mitch Dunning collapsed to the ice.

Manson tapped him on the shoulder to make sure he was doing okay after the collision.

The Colorado Avalanche are starting to recover from an injury nightmare, where nearly their entire top-end of their roster was absent.

They now have the return of Arturri Lehkonen and Jonathan Drouin from their respective injuries, and have the return of Valeri Nichushkin from the NHL Players Assistance Program and his six month suspension.

The Philadelphia Flyers have rookie phenom Matvei Michkov on the roster, who is doing great, but reportedly clashing with head coach John Tortorella.

He recently came in second on an NHL Calder Trophy poll, trailing Dallas Stars forward Logan Stankoven, and ahead of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson.

We hope that Mitch Dunning will be okay and recover fully, and we send our thoughts and prayers to him and his family.
