The former 20-goal scorer Kasperi Kapanen was claimed off waivers by a Pacific Division team on Tuesday afternoon.

Yesterday, the St. Louis Blues organization surprised many fans and experts when they announced that they placed the veteran Kasperi Kapanen on waivers.

But Kapanen has dealt with his fair share of struggles this season, only scoring one goal in ten games, which is likely what prompted Doug Armstrong to place him on waivers.

There were very few doubts that with his cap-friendly one-year, $1 million contract, a team looking for offensive depth would be tempted to claim him. However, Kapanen proved in his career that he could contribute to the success of a team, with 209 career points, including 85 goals, in 470 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, and St. Louis Blues.

Unsurprisingly, we learned that Kapanen hasn't cleared waivers and was claimed by one of the top teams in the Pacific Division.

Indeed, reports confirmed that the Edmonton Oilers decided to claim him:

The Oilers, despite all the talent on their roster, needed offensive reinforcements.

With Zach Hyman struggling to find his rhythm after a 50-goal season, as well as the injuries to both Evander Kane and Victor Arvidsson, Stan Bowman, the Oilers general manager, hopes to see the forward bounce back from his tough start in Edmonton.

The Oilers are set to be back on the ice tonight against the Ottawa Senators, 24 hours after a tough 3-0 defeat to the Canadiens in Montreal.

Kapanen's status for the game hasn't been confirmed by his new organization yet, but an official decision is expected to be announced in the next few hours.
