Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner is facing another twist in his bankruptcy proceedings as the law firm he hired to represent him has dropped out.

The strange case involving Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner and his wife Donya has become even more strange now that their lawyers have asked the court to remove them from the proceedings.

Back in September, it was revealed that Robin Lehner's assets had been frozen by a bankruptcy court in Sweden as creditors became concerned about his spending, and their ability to collect what they say they are owned.

That came after Lehner, who hasn't played since April of 2022, didn't show up for the Vegas Golden Knights' training camp citing "unique circumstances."

According to reports out of Sweden, the latest twist in the case has Robin Lehner's law firm, Larson & Zirzow, asking for, and receiving permission from the judge to remove themselves from the case. Larson & Zirzow stated communication with Lehner has become very difficult.

"Since estimated early June 2024, communication from Mr. Lehner has completely ceased, despite repeated contact attempts by Larson & Zirzow using a variety of methods to not only Mr. Lehner himself but also to the individuals who previously facilitated the communication."

The law firm added that has led to an undue financial burden.

"Furthermore, the debtors have been unable or unwilling to compensate Larson & Zirzow for services rendered...which has led to an unreasonable financial burden on L&Z and is grounds for rescinding the assignment."

A separate hearing will be needed to officially remove the firm from representing Robin Lehner's wife Donya.

According to court documents, The Lehners have not found another law firm to represent them in their proceedings, and may represent themselves in further hearings.

Robin Lehner is in the final year of a five-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, and becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Given everything that has happened in his absence from the team, I'd be surprised to ever see him back in the NHL again.
