High school hockey player tragically passes away during charity event
Massapequa High School defenseman Connor Kasin tragically passed away today after suffering a medical emergency on the ice during a charity game.
Kasin, a Long Island native, was playing in a game with his high school team in honor of a former classmate, Sabrina Navaretta, who passed away during a traffic accident last year.
The 17-year-old appeared in 14 games with the Long Island Sharks U18 team this year, registering zero points and taking a single minor penalty.
We do not know exactly what happened to Kasin and those details will likely remain private as they should.
According to the police report, the young man seemingly randomly lost consciousness during one of the intermissions. He received CPR but was pronounced shortly after he arrived at a local hospital.
Massapequa school district superintendent William Brennan made a statement about the boy's passing, offering his condolences to his family and friends.
The hockey community will mourn Kasin's passing together. It is not fair that we lost another player, especially one so young, practically with his whole life ahead of him.
