The Edmonton Oilers re-tooled this past summer, letting go of forwards Ryan McLeod and Dylan Holloway, with the team opting for veteran free agents Victor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner instead, with the optimism that they could be the keys to unlocking the full potentially of the team.
Now, that has turned out to be a poor decision on the part of Edmonton's front office, as both McLeod and Holloway have played well, while Skinner unfortunately continues to get pushed further and further down the lineup.
Things have gotten so bad for Skinner, who has just 12 points in 31 games played that it appears a trade could be on the horizon, with former Oilers defenseman Jason Strudwick predicting a trade may be the best path forward.
Fans have started to notice this as well, and while the team wanted Skinner to play on the second line this season, it simply hasn't worked out, with a trade making perfect sense not only for Edmonton who need further assets, but for Skinner to get the optimum playing time that he should be seeing.
Ultimately, it's unclear if the team are open to trading Skinner, who would be a great fit and solid insurance if a winger went down with injury, but unless that happens, the Skinner in Edmonton situation just isn't working, and it would likely be better for both parties if they simply parted ways.
