Yesterday, the Athletic reporter Josh Yohe, who covers the Pittsburgh Penguins, released an article examining the trade deadline possibilities for the club.
The Penguins are currently 7th in the Metro Division, three points above the New York Islanders and 2 points behind the Rangers and Flyers.
Unfortunately for them, all three of those clubs have at least one game in hand on them, making their path to the playoffs very difficult.
As a result, general manager Kyle Dubas will likely be taking calls at the trade deadline as a seller once again this March.
Players that are likely to be moved include Drew O'Connor and Marcus Pettersson.
However, there are much bigger names in Pittsburgh that could potentially be on the move this season.
Yohe writes that defenseman Kris Letang could be on his way out if the right circumstances present themselves.
He indicates that a Letang trade remains unlikely, but that it may very well be something Dubas is forced to consider if a good offer comes across his table.
Kyle Dubas did indicate yesterday that the team is unlikely to sell off major pieces but a lot can change between now and March 7th.
What will happen if Dubas receives an offer he simply cannot refuse for Letang?
The 37-year-old does have a full no-move clause which could complicate a deal, but who's to say he doesn't want another chance to win a Stanley Cup?
That certainly won't be happening in Pittsburgh anytime soon.
