Hockey World Mourning After German Hockey Star Tobias Eder Tragically Passes Away

Heartbreaking news was announced today, as German hockey star Tobias Eder has passed away at the young age of 26.

Eder was diagnosed with cancer weeks after representing Germany at the 2023 World Championships, and has tragically succumbed to his diagnosis.

Hockey social media page PuckEmpire made this tribute to Eder on Instagram:

We regret to inform you that Tobias Eder, forward for Eisbären Berlin in the top-flight German league, and member of Germany's national team, has passed away at the age of 26 after his fight with cancer.

Eder had 22 goals, 31 points through 52 games played with Eisbären Berlin last season, and had one goal, three points through seven games played with Germany's national team in that same span.

Over the course of his career, Eder had 68 goals, 129 points through 263 games played in the DEL - and 5 goals, 9 points through 27 games played with Germany's national team.

He will be dearly missed.

Eder's team, Eisbären Berlin, released the following statement after the heartbreaking news was confirmed:

"We are shocked, deeply saddened and stunned,

Unfortunately, Tobi has not won his most difficult fight Dear Tobi, we will miss you. You always put a smile a smile on everyone's face. That's exactly how we will always remember you!"

Tobias will be remembered not only as an amazing hockey player, who represented Germany on the national stage several times, but as a genuine and caring person.

Rest in peace, Tobias Eder.
