Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews had a sassy response to a question asked by a reporter about the Four Nations tournament.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are back in action tonight along with the rest of the NHL after the Four Nations tournament ended on Thursday.

Auston Matthews returned to the Leafs defeated along with the rest of his American teammates.

None of the Americans are happy about the result, especially Brady Tkachuk, who was emotional in his post-game interview after the final ended.

"Honestly, I was convinced we were going to win. Just everything happens for a reason. There's a reason why we didn't win tonight. Maybe in a year's time it goes the other way."- Brady Tkachuk

The tournament ended in an instant as Connor McDavid got open right in front of the American net about halfway through the first overtime period.

He received a perfect pass from Auston Matthews' teammate Mitch Marner, and put it past Connor Hellebuyck's glove for the golden goal.

Notably, McDavid was Matthew's man in coverage. It was the Leafs captain who was supposed to be covering him, but he turned away just at the wrong time.

He tried to get his stick back on the pass but it was a fraction of a second too late.

One reporter asked him about that exact moment ahead of tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes, asking if it "haunts" him.

The Scottsdale, Arizona native had a short and sassy response for the reporter.

Matthews has 20 goals and 45 points for the Leafs this season in 40 games played.

He has missed time with various injuries, but appears to be 100% healthy coming off the Four Nations faceoff and will be as determined as ever to give his best to the Leafs after the heartbreaking loss.
