Grant McCagg torched the officials Tuesday night, accusing them of missing as many as three Sabres infractions in Game 4 against the Canadiens at the Bell Centre.

The veteran scout fired off his post just before 10 p.m., minutes after Buffalo escaped Montreal 3-2 to level the series 2-2.

McCagg listed three separate incidents involving Juraj Slafkovsky, Cole Caufield and Jake Evans, each one a hit to the head or throat area, none of them called.

"Goalie butt ended Slaf in the face. Caufield stick to the throat, and Evans stick raked across his face. I can see missing one or perhaps even two...but three?"

That's the kind of post that lights up Habs Twitter for 24 hours. And it ran straight into a 15K-view wall.

You can see the frustration in the box score. Slafkovsky logged 23:10 of ice time, fired five shots, and walked out with one assist on a night Montreal needed everything from him.

Lindy Ruff and Lane Hutson hold the keys to Game 5

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 28 of 30 to steal the win for Lindy Ruff. Tage Thompson buried the luckiest goal on the power play. Zach Benson finished it on the man advantage.

Two of three Buffalo goals came with the extra man. So if Martin St-Louis wants to flip the script, the calls McCagg listed are exactly the ones that need to start going Montreal's way.

Cole Caufield potted his goal anyway. Alex Newhook beat UPL once. But Lane Hutson, who quarterbacked the back end for 28:02, finished a -1 and never got the bounce on the late push.

Here's the thing. Going into the night, Montreal had won two straight by a combined 11-3. One bad whistle sequence, and the road to the second round just got two games longer.

Game 5 goes Thursday in Buffalo. Jakub Dobes, who took the loss after a 19-save night, will likely get the call again with the season on the brink.

Does St-Louis push back publicly? Or does he let the noise from McCagg and the Montreal media room do the work for him?

Let's be honest, Montreal should get that killer instinct and score on powerplay chances they have. 1 for 7 is unacceptable.
