David Pagnotta says teams are poking around on several Canucks, with Brock Boeser among the names drawing interest.

The report is straightforward. On Sekeres & Price, Pagnotta said clubs are inquiring on a bunch of Vancouver players, and Boeser is one of them.

Look at the player. Boeser is 29, on a $7.25M deal, coming off 22 goals and 48 points. A scoring winger with real appeal, even if the minus-48 says plenty about the team around him.

Now the frame that matters. Vancouver finished 32nd, and what a teardown needs isn't more veterans, it's picks and prospects.

This fits everything else out of the market, too. Nick Kypreos said the Canucks want picks and prospects, and Elliotte Friedman said the new management is open to a futures-based return.

Pagnotta added Boeser's name to that pile.

Why futures are the return Vancouver actually needs

He's one piece of a wider sell-off. The Pettersson talk is humming, and Teddy Blueger and Derek Forbort are headed for free agency. Vancouver is open for business.

Here's the logic. A last-place club gets nothing from hoarding 29-year-old wingers. Converting them into draft capital and young talent is how you actually rebuild, and Boeser fits that to a tee.

Be honest on the value, though. His scoring is real, but the price tag and the rough plus-minus mean Vancouver may not land a king's ransom. Even so, a pick or a prospect beats watching him walk later for nothing.

The timing sharpens it. With the draft Friday, this is the window to turn veterans into futures, and teams poking around now are positioning for exactly that.

Here's my read: this is the path the Canucks should take, full stop. You're 32nd. Sell the veterans who aren't part of the next good team and stack picks and prospects. Boeser drawing interest is an opportunity, not a loss.

So Vancouver's reset keeps taking shape. Boeser in play, Pettersson percolating, depth clearing out.

Which veterans actually move, and what comes back, is the story into the draft. The interest is here. The deals are next.
