Connor Ingram could land in Pittsburgh after leaving Mike Babcock's Oilers, with one projection pointing to a clear fit in the Penguins crease.

Alex Chauvancy identified the Penguins as a logical destination for Ingram, who remains available after spending last season with Edmonton.

This is a projected fit, not a report that Pittsburgh has opened contract talks. But the match makes sense because the Penguins are still sorting out their goaltending picture.

Ingram went 16-10-3 with a 2.60 GAA during his only regular season in Edmonton, giving Pittsburgh evidence that he can handle NHL starts.

His .899 save percentage doesn't jump off the page, but Chauvancy noted that Ingram saved 7.45 goals above expected during the regular season.

The postseason was tougher. Ingram went 2-3 with a 3.86 GAA as Anaheim eliminated Edmonton in the opening round.

“Connor Ingram may have struggled during the playoffs, but he was arguably Edmonton's best goaltender during the regular season. He saved 7.45 goals above expected, making him an above-average NHL netminder.”
- Alex Chauvancy

Pittsburgh could view him as a bridge while Arturs Silovs and Sergei Murashov compete for larger roles in the organization.

“Ingram could be a good stopgap for Pittsburgh. He would provide experience until the Penguins believe Sergei Murashov is ready for a full-time NHL role.”

Penguins emerge as potential landing spot for former Oilers goalie Connor Ingram

The Penguins no longer have Stuart Skinner after he signed with Winnipeg, leaving room for Kyle Dubas to consider another experienced option if he wants more insurance in the crease.

“Tristan's going to be back. The most important thing was finding a promising young goaltender, and Devon Levi is knocking on the door waiting for that opportunity.”
- Stan Bowman

Ingram's career numbers also offer a larger sample. He owns a 55-54-18 NHL record with a .901 save percentage and 9 shutouts.

Edmonton, meanwhile, has already moved in another direction. Stan Bowman added Frederik Andersen and Devon Levi while confirming Tristan Jarry remains part of the plan.

That crowded setup closed the door on an Ingram return. The Oilers now have enough bodies in goal that another contract there would make little roster sense.

Pittsburgh offers a much cleaner opportunity. Ingram wouldn't need to arrive as an unquestioned starter, but he could give the Penguins another proven NHL option while Murashov continues developing.

The question is whether Dubas wants another veteran or prefers to leave the crease open for younger competition. Ingram's regular-season work suggests he deserves consideration if Pittsburgh wants stability.

For Ingram, the attraction is obvious. Edmonton moved on, his next NHL role remains unsettled, and Pittsburgh could offer exactly what he needs: a realistic path back into meaningful starts.
