Darren Raddysh has a new blue line to run, and Jim Hiller has a new team to coach heading into training camp this summer.
That's the reset happening in Toronto right now, and it's a reset a lot of fans were begging for.
Because last season was ugly. The Maple Leafs finished 32-36-14, good for 78 points, and that record tells the story before anyone even opens the box score.
Toronto ranked 28th overall in the league last season with a minus-46 goal differential, outscored 299 to 253 over the full slate.
Raddysh is supposed to help fix some of that. He put up 22 goals and 70 points in 73 games last season before Toronto acquired his rights, and that shot from the point is real.
Sergei Bobrovsky is the other name carrying a lot of weight here. He played 52 games last season at a .876 save percentage, and that number is rough, no way around it.
But Bobrovsky is 37 and has hit 50 games in 12 of his 16 NHL seasons. Durability isn't nothing for a franchise that's burned through goaltenders for years.
Gavin McKenna joins a team built to protect him, not lean on him
Gavin McKenna is walking into a situation most first overall picks never get: a roster that isn't relying on him to be the engine on night one.
That's a gift, honestly. Most number ones get dropped into a rebuild and told to save it. McKenna gets to learn on a team with actual pieces around him.
Easton Cowan is one of those pieces. He put up 29 points in 66 games as a rookie last season, riding some bumpy stretches in the lineup along the way.

Jim Hiller took over as Toronto's head coach on June 17, and he inherits a group that finished the year losing seven straight.

That 2-7-1 stretch to close last season is the version of this team nobody in Toronto wants back. Whether Hiller, Raddysh, and the new faces can bury it for good is still an open question.
