The uncertainty surrounding Friedman's future ended Wednesday morning when Rogers confirmed that the longtime NHL insider had signed a contract extension with the network.
His previous agreement expired on August 31, leaving one of hockey television's biggest names without a confirmed deal as training camps approached.
That immediately raised questions about whether Sportsnet was prepared to move forward without Friedman, whose reporting and analysis have become a major part of its national NHL coverage.
Those questions are finished now. Friedman will return as an analyst and insider for the 2026-27 NHL season, keeping him on the network as its next broadcasting chapter begins.

Kevin Bieksa has also signed an extension with Rogers after his contract expired on the same date, keeping another major member of the Sportsnet panel in place.
