Michael Misa, Keaton Verhoeff and two other Sharks prospects are being linked to Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson, according to IceMetrix.

The talk is not new. San Jose and Detroit have been tied together for about a week, and David Pagnotta's Edvinsson trade talk update this morning says the conversation has picked up steam.

Edvinsson is 23, went sixth overall in 2021 and is a 6'6 defenseman with 60 points in 175 NHL games. He hasn't played this season. The Red Wings list him on injured reserve with a contract dispute, out indefinitely.

The names attached to him are Misa, Verhoeff, Igor Chernyshov and Filip Bystedt. Misa was the second overall pick in 2025, Verhoeff went ninth in 2026, and Bystedt was taken 27th in 2022. Chernyshov, a second-rounder in 2024, is listed on IR with an upper-body injury and is expected out until at least Nov. 14.

Misa is the one that matters. He has 10 points in 17 games this season and picked up two power-play assists in Wednesday night's 7-2 loss at Los Angeles.

IceMetrix noted that the combination being discussed is unknown, and asked what the Sharks should be willing to give up.

Our earlier coverage of Darren Dreger's Edvinsson trade report had Misa in the speculation "plus, maybe plus." Detroit has reportedly wanted more than Misa alone, and San Jose has reportedly balked at that swap.

Why the Sharks should walk away from a Misa deal

Giving up a former number two pick for a defenseman who hasn't played this year and is in a contract dispute is a bad idea. Edvinsson's talent isn't the question. The leverage is, because the player hasn't suited up and the Sharks would be paying for the privilege.

San Jose is 7-9-1 and has lost three straight. The 7-2 loss in Los Angeles left them 25th in the NHL with a goal differential of -17.

That's a team that needs help on the blue line, no question. But it also needs young forwards like Misa who can drive offense, and Verhoeff is an 18-year-old defenseman who hasn't played an NHL game yet.

Detroit is 7-6-3 and hosts Vegas tonight, so the Red Wings don't look like sellers. The Sharks are in Minnesota on Friday, and whether any of these names changes teams may depend on what happens with Edvinsson's contract dispute first.
