Ron MacLean took to Hockey Night in Canada's intermission segment to call out the NHL in its decision regarding Jacob Trouba and his violent slash.

Ron MacLean Calls Out the NHLPA for Insufficient Punishment Regarding Trouba's Violent Slash on Frederic

Jacob Trouba delivered a dirty and violent slash during Saturday's matchup between the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins. Trouba delivered the slash to Trent Frederic's head, with a full-swing motion that connected right to the side of his face.

The slash was unquestionably dirty, and the NHL took swift action to punish Trouba. However, the punishment was a measly $5,000 fine.

NY Rangers' Jacob Trouba has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for High-sticking Boston's Trent Frederic.

Ron MacLean Not Happy With The Lack Of Punishment for Trouba

Ron MacLean was clearly not happy with the measly $5,000 fine for Trouba. He took to the intermission of Hockey Night in Canada to share his thoughts, and how he thinks this was not enough.

"That's unbelievable, how can that only be a $5,000 fine?" asked McLean during the broadcast.

Fans and other analysts agree that this fine wasn't enough, calling out NHL Player Safety for this decision.

NHLPA needs to find a voice, and use it, to object when players--like Trouba Sat at MSG--aren't sufficiently fined/suspended for blatant hits/slashes to the head.

Trouba swung his stick and whacked Frederic in the head, but if you look at the other angle, Trouba swung his stick and whacked Frederic in the head.

Clearly, the NHL has some issues it needs to sort out when dishing out punishment for certain actions on the ice.
