Patrick Laine suffered a brutal injury this pre-season, and after being given a preliminary timeline for return, the star forward is way ahead of schedule.

After months of speculation, the Montreal Canadiens pulled the trigger on a deal to land Patrik Laine this past summer, with expectations that he could lift the game of many of the team's young forwards. Unfortunately, Laine suffered an injury in the pre-season against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a brutal blow to Montreal's hopes in 2024/25.

Shortly after the injury, a timeline was given for his return, with the expectation being that he'll return likely in late December to early January, but now, it appears he may be on pace to return well ahead of schedule.

According to Canadiens reporter Renaud Lavoie, Laine started skating this week, and if everything goes perfectly during his recovery, he could be back before the month of November is over.

"Patrik Laine started skating again on Thursday," said Lavoie during Saturday night's NHL broadcast before adding "if everything goes well, and I stress if everything goes well, he could be playing at the end of the month... if everything goes well."

Given how poorly this team has played in recent times, with their season record sitting at 4-9-2 through 15 games played, any type of boost would be a major help as they look to turn things around and make a push for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Given the nature of the injury however, it's asking a lot for him to get back to 100% in time to still impact this season, but if he can return before early December and get in his groove, it could be the shot in the arm this top-six needs to turn their season around.
