Colorado Avalanche Place Longtime NHL Journeyman on Waivers
The Colorado Avalanche have placed 33-year-old Chris Wagner on waivers, a real journeyman around the league who has played at the center position.
Chris Wagner is one of the most physical and grittiest forwards in the NHL. He was born on May 27, 1991, in Walpole, Massachusetts, and was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks back in 2010.
He finally made his professional debut within the league during the 2014-15 season while playing for the Anaheim Ducks.
Afterward, Wagner played for several clubs such as the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins.
The Avalanche have now placed Wagner on waivers, so we will know in less than 24 hours whether he gets claimed.
His forechecking and shot-blocking earned him the nickname "Mayor of Walpole," and he became an instant fan favorite in Boston. He is a depth forward, specializing in hard hits, penalty killing, and energy on the ice.
The Avalanche are expected to activate Valeri Nichushkin from suspension, ahead of Friday's contest against Washington.
A move was needed to free up a roster spot and unfortunately for Wagner, he was the odd-man out as his numbers this season haven't been the greatest.
Wagner had a goal in 12 games with the Avs this season and will likely be sent to AHL Colorado, should he pass through waivers unclaimed.
