After another devastating loss for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, they now sit at 6-10-3 on the season, and with little hope remaining for a Stanley Cup Playoff push, they could pivot their plans very quickly.
Unfortunately for Kyle Dubas and the front office, that means making some very tough decisions moving forward on this roster, with many suggestions that the team should part ways with franchise icons.
At this point in time however, GM Dubas has seemingly shut the door on any trades involving Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin, making it clear that while the team are ready to make some huge deals, neither veteran will be involved.
When asked about the situation, Malkin echoed those sentiments, revealing that no matter what happens with the roster around them, he doesn't want to go anywhere, and would like to remain a Penguin for the remainder of his career.
Fortunately for 71, he carries a no-movement clause that he could utilize at any time, but right now, the front office has shown no signs that they would even entertain a deal involving Malkin, who has meant so much to this franchise over the past two decades.
With 5 goals and 18 points in 19 games played this season, it's also clear that Malkin can still get it done at a very high level, and if the team can make some savvy moves, 71 and 87 could still drag this team into the Stanley Cup Playoffs at some point.
Right now, it's unclear what's going to happen in Pittsburgh, but from all reports, it appears that neither Crosby or Malkin want to or will be going anywhere, despite the current state of the team.
