The Boston Bruins fired head coach Jim Montgomery yesterday and he is already being linked to an Atlantic Division rival.

Despite holding a 65-12-5 record as the Bruins' head coach in their record-breaking season in 2023, as well as an amazing 120-41-23 record overall, the team decided to fire Jim Montgomery as head coach yesterday.

It hasn't been easy in Boston this season. With an 8-9-3 record, management wasn't satisfied with the team's performance and is hoping that assistant coach Joe Saccoe will be able to take things to the next level.

With coach Montgomery now available, many teams will likely show interest in him. After all, he has a lot of experience and a great reputation around the NHL.

That seems to be the Montreal Canadiens' case.

It's no secret that the Habs faced some challenges this season, partly due to the lack of experience behind the bench.

Martin St. Louis, Stephane Robidas, and Trevor Letowski don't have much experience as coaches, which is widely used to explain the team's struggles.

Even if the Canadiens hired Roger Grillo, former director of the US Development Program, as a coaching consultant before the season, many think the team needs to add someone else behind the bench.

Montgomery, a Montreal native, has already been targeted as a potential addition by analysts and fans.

There's no doubt that his experience could be useful in Montreal. However, if he's truly in the market to join another organization so soon, many other teams could show interest.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, and Montgomery will likely take his time before coming back to the NHL, but if he wants to come back, the Montreal Canadiens could be a great destination for him.
