Gary Bettman and the NHL could change their rules after the Jacob Trouba trade disaster from earlier this week.
Jacob Trouba's trade by the New York Rangers created quite a commotion across the NHL.
The former Rangers captain was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, even if that team was on his no-trade list.
The insider Elliotte Friedman revealed last night in Hockey Night in Canada that NHL players were bothered by the fact that the team found a way to circumvent Trouba's no-trade clause.

Friedman continued by saying he believes the player association will address that issue in the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations.

Why have NMCs at all if the team can simply put him on waivers and let any other team claim him? Friedman states here that players want to protect themselves from such scenarios.
The current agreement doesn't end until September 2026, but it'll be interesting to see how things unfold at the next negotiations, set to start in early 2025.
While it's a good thing that they start negotiating earlier than usual, we never know what can happen at the table once the two parties meet face to face to discuss the issues.
