After years of preparation, the greatest competitive threat to Gary Bettman's NHL has come to an unfortunate conclusion.

NHL fans across North America have railed against the league's state under Commissioner Gary Bettman's leadership, sharing their hopes for a retirement, or an alternative.

Working to be the man behind this alternative, Max Chambers embarked on a journey to create the Major League Hockey Corporation to establish a three-on-three league, the MLH.

Despite many fans' high hopes, on December 12th, the MLH announced that it would no longer operate, squashing the chances of a major competitor to the NHL.

"Max Chambers, C.E.O of Major League Hockey Corporation, reports that the proposed 3-on-3 hockey league will cease operations immediately as of December 12, 2024."

Though the MLH Corporation has encountered scattered controversy since its announcement, the reason for its conclusion has little to do with financial concerns.

According to the company's announcement, Chambers has faced a medical emergency that will prevent him from being able to perform his roles

"Mr. Chambers will resume his radiation treatments for cancer immediately and has been advised by his oncology team that it would be in his best personal interest to concentrate on his battle and recovery. The time commitment to continue with MLH will not be possible."

Chambers provided a personal statement, sharing his disheartenment at the time he spent for an alternative to not come to fruition, yet also acknowledging that his health would make such a task impossible.

"I am truly saddened by this turn of events. My team and I have spent three years developing this concept and believe it would have been a successful, exciting hockey alternative. But, in consult with my family, doctors, and close associates I agree that my health will deny me the energy needed to lead such a venture."

The MLH Corp. will continue operating on the legal end to close shop as Chambers moves into full-time oncological care.

While this may not be the outcome frustrated NHL watchers wanted, hopefully, another more fruitful endeavor is just around the corner.
