Earlier this season, J.T. Miller took a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons. During that time, Elias Pettersson was having the time of his life, scoring 15 points during Miller's 10-game absence.
Ever since Miller returned to the lineup on December 12th, Pettersson hasn't scored a single point.
There is some friction between Miller and Pettersson, and according to Elite Prospect's Content Director Cam Robinson, things seem to have reached a new level, as both players haven't been playing together, not even on the powerplay, since December 14th:
On X, a user shared his take on the issue, saying a change in the leadership dynamics could help the team:
Both Miller and Pettersson have been included in trade rumors this season. If they can't be teammates, the Canucks management is poised to trade one of them.
In the past week, Pettersson was linked to the Montreal Canadiens in a blockbuster trade scenario involving Cole Caufield and David Savard, while Miller made multiple comments that hinted at the end of his journey in Vancouver:
While both players would generate interesting returns for the Canucks, Miller could be easier to trade. Indeed, he only earns $8 million a year, whereas Petterson is in the first year of an eight-season contract at $11,600,000 a year.
Many teams would be interested in acquiring any of them if the Canucks decide to make them available on the market.
The Canucks will be back on the ice tomorrow against the Vegas Golden Knights and will look to bounce back from last night's tough 3-2 loss to the Utah Hockey Club.
It'll be interesting to see what happens next with Pettersson and Miller, and how it'll affect the team's locker room.
