John Keating, a beloved announcer of the Detroit Red Wings as well as for other sports teams in the Detroit area, has unfortunately announced his retirement.

Veteran Detroit sports announcer John Keating revealed yesterday that he will retire at the end of this season as a Detroit Red Wings commentator.

John Keating is a very familiar face and voice to Detroit sports fans. He's a longtime member of the FanDuel Sports Network, today's version of what was also Bally Sports Detroit and, before that, Fox Sports Detroit.

In his time since entering the sports media profession, he has grown into a mainstay household feature providing thoughtful insight while reaching the people of Michigan on a personal level.

In a heartfelt post on X, Keating said that the decision to leave was made during the middle of the Detroit Tigers' season back in July. His announcement is the end of an era for Detroit sports media.

Before Keating broke onto the Detroit scene, he was honing his skills in some earlier cities like Grand Rapids and Denver.

Before he became one of the most recognizable faces in local sports, he was an ultra-professional, nice-guy broadcaster who loved sports.

With the season winding up, Keating will be in action on April 14 for his last home game and then on April 17 for the season's finale.

His teammates and all of the many fans who have followed his dedicated work surely will be crying as they bid farewell at his retirement moment. He will always be a big part of Detroit's history of sports.
