The Washington Capitals landed Logan Thompson this off-season, and now, they've inked the star goaltender to a long-term extension after an amazing start to the season that has the Capitals rolling as the NHL's top team in 2024/25.

In the summer, the Washington Capitals acquired Logan Thompson from the Vegas Golden Knights, in a move that few people thought anything of around the league.

Now however, he's turned into one of the biggest stars in net in the NHL, posting an incredible 2.09 GAA and a .925 save percentage through 27 starts while leading arguably the best goaltender in the NHL.

With 130 NHL appearances under his belt, the 27-year old is just entering his prime, and now the Capitals have locked him up long-term, as first reported by top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.

According to Friedman, the deal will be in the six-year range, carrying a salary cap hit of $5.85 million per season, and given the potential he's got at the NHL level, he's now locked up as the teams No. 1 starter for the foreseeable future.

In games started by Thompson this season, the Capitals have an incredible 22-2-3 record through those 27 games, and with one of the deepest rosters in the NHL, they're a genuine Stanley Cup threat with Thompson in net backed up by Charlie Lindgren, giving them one of the best 1-2 combinations in the NHL.

Ultimately, this is an incredible move for both the Capitals and Thompson, who is now set for the foreseeable future, and with the Capitals chasing a Stanley Cup in 2024/25, they could ride the Calgary native all the way as he has all the tools to be a major threat in the post-season.
