Elias Pettersson has quietly turned down every offseason offer put in front of him by the Vancouver Canucks.
He carries a full no-movement clause, and that clause means nothing happens without his signature.
The Pittsburgh Penguins reportedly made a real run at him this summer. Pettersson wasn't interested in waiving it.
The Athletic's Josh Yohe reported everything he's heard points to a player with zero interest in leaving Vancouver right now.
Carolina, Montreal, Toronto, Seattle, Philadelphia, and Chicago have all circled Pettersson at different points over the past year.
None of it has moved him. For now, it looks like he's choosing to rebuild his value right where he is.
Why Vancouver can't force this one
Pettersson posted 15 goals and 51 points in 74 games last season, a minus-30 rating that tells its own story.
He hasn't hit a point-per-game pace since 2024, and both ends of his game have slipped since.
His deal runs through the 2032 season at an $11,600,000 cap hit, a number that only gets heavier if the production keeps sliding.
Vancouver finished 25-49-8 for 58 points, dead last in the league overall. New head coach Manny Malhotra inherits a total teardown.
They also closed out 4-6-0 over their final ten games, matching the tone of a lost season from start to finish.
That's the uncomfortable part for the Canucks. Their most skilled forward has full control, and he's using it to stay put.
Brock Boeser scored 22 goals and put up 48 points of his own, and he's one of the names still floating on the market.
Jake DeBrusk is out there too, along with goaltender Thatcher Demko, who posted a .895 save percentage in 20 games last season.
So the rebuild keeps moving even without Pettersson's signature attached to it. Vancouver just has to find takers for everyone else first.
For a team picking up the pieces, that's not nothing. But letting your best player dictate the terms of a rebuild is still a strange spot to be in.
