Alex DeBrincat's latest comments create an interesting situation in Detroit

Alex DeBrincat isn't going anywhere, and he made that clear to NHL.com on Tuesday while Detroit's front office sits without a general manager.

"My intention is obviously to stay in Detroit," DeBrincat said, even with Dylan Larkin's trade request and Patrick Kane's exit hanging over the room.

DeBrincat is entering the final season of a four-year, $31,500,000 contract, and he led Detroit with 41 goals and 85 points this season.

He's scored more goals than Larkin over their three seasons together in Detroit, and that gap matters heading into a messy offseason.

"When a new GM is announced, I'm sure there's going to be some conversations, but my opinion hasn't changed," DeBrincat said.

Detroit finished 41-31-10 this season, 16th overall, under head coach Todd McLellan with a three-game skid to close things out.

Extension talks for DeBrincat are on hold until the Red Wings hire their next GM, a decision that's already overdue with camp closing in.

Quinn Hughes' indecision could sink Larkin's dream destination

Here's where it gets complicated. Larkin's preferred landing spot is believed to be Minnesota, where Team USA teammates Quinn Hughes, Matt Boldy, and Brock Faber already play.

But insider Chris Johnston told TSN that Hughes still hasn't settled on his own future, and that changes everything for Larkin.

Hughes has talked about eventually playing alongside his brothers Jack and Luke. If Minnesota isn't where Hughes lands long-term, the Wild stop being the obvious fit.

Larkin, who posted 67 points in 74 games this year, may have to widen his list or rethink the whole request if Hughes wavers.

Meanwhile, Simon Edvinsson plans to attend training camp even without a new deal in place, according to Pierre LeBrun.

Edvinsson posted 25 points in 72 games this season and is expected to pair with Moritz Seider as a top defensive tandem next year.

Detroit is walking into camp with no GM, a captain who wants out, and two core pieces still unsigned. That's a lot to sort out before puck drop.
