Jack Hughes just gave Sheldon Keefe and the New Jersey Devils another reason to watch Quinn Hughes' next contract decision closely.
The Devils star was asked about the possibility of eventually sharing an NHL locker room with both of his brothers, Luke Hughes and Quinn Hughes.
That discussion carries more weight after Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk were brought together in Florida, creating another high-profile NHL family reunion.
Jack made it clear that playing beside Quinn remains an attractive idea. But he also acknowledged that his older brother has his own career and financial decisions to make.
The message was measured. Jack isn't expecting Quinn to sacrifice the best situation available simply to make a three-brother reunion happen in New Jersey.

That matters because Quinn's future has become one of the league's most fascinating long-term contract stories, with Minnesota trying to secure its star defenseman.

Jack pointed toward the financial side of the equation when discussing how difficult a future move involving Quinn could become. A massive contract would make any attempt to fit all three brothers together far more complicated.

Luke already gives Jack one brother inside the Devils' core. Adding Quinn would create a completely different challenge for general manager Tom Fitzgerald and the club's salary structure.
There's also no indication Jack expects special treatment. His answer instead showed an understanding that Quinn has earned the right to decide where he wants to spend the next stage of his career.
For Minnesota general manager Bill Guerin, that puts extra attention on every contract discussion. The Wild need to know whether Quinn sees Minnesota as his long-term home or simply his current stop.
New Jersey doesn't control that decision. But as long as Quinn avoids locking himself into a lengthy commitment elsewhere, the possibility of joining Jack and Luke won't disappear.
