Mark Scheifele has been named as one of the big fish the Canadiens are eyeing, and Montreal may not be alone if the Jets ever listen.

Sacha L. on X said Scheifele is one of the targets, building on David Pagnotta's report that Kent Hughes wants to go after a really big fish.

Treat it as chatter until a bigger insider confirms it publicly.

Scheifele has 7 points this season on an $8,500,000 cap hit.

Six of those points are assists, including 2 on the power play.

If anyone should push for him, it's a contender. A 33-year-old on that deal fits a team chasing a Cup far better than one still building around kids.

He's like a vintage watch at an auction. Plenty of people want to bid, but only a few can justify the price.

Scheifele is primarily linked to the Montreal Canadiens, but several teams could enter the race if the Jets decide to trade him. Dallas, Florida, Boston, Washington, Pittsburgh, and Vancouver could all be potential suitors, especially teams looking for an experienced offensive player.

For now, though, this is only speculation, and none of those teams has been officially linked to Scheifele.

Mark Scheifele linked to Canadiens on X, but Jets at 4-1-2 have no obvious reason to sell

Dallas needs offense most, with just 16 goals in seven games.

Jim Nill already added David Perron, and Wyatt Johnston is day-to-day with an illness.

Florida is without Brad Marchand until at least Nov 21, and Matthew Tkachuk is carrying the scoring with 11 points.

Boston is 5-2-0 and has already been linked to Dylan Larkin, so Don Sweeney has shown he's willing to chase a top forward.

Washington's Pierre-Luc Dubois is day-to-day with an illness, and Chris Patrick's group sits at 4-3-0.

Pittsburgh is 3-3-1, with Evgeni Malkin and Thomas Novak leading the way at 5 points each.

Vancouver is the long shot at 2-6-1, though Elias Pettersson could use more help than his 9 points suggest.

Winnipeg is 4-1-2, so Kevin Cheveldayoff has no obvious reason to sell.

Kyle Connor has 8 goals, and Cole Perfetti has 8 points, so the Jets' forwards are rolling.

The Jets already have the Connor Hellebuyck standoff to handle as well.

If Winnipeg ever does listen, can Montreal really outbid a contender in a hurry?

Winnipeg hosts Carolina on Saturday, while Montreal hosts Buffalo.

Big fish attract a crowd. Montreal might be first in line, but it's hardly alone at the counter.
