Red Wings GM Shawn Horcoff says he has no intention of trading Simon Edvinsson, but Pierre LeBrun believes a deal is still possible the longer this drags on.

LeBrun said on SC with Jay Onrait that there are two sides to those comments.

Edvinsson remains unsigned, and David Pagnotta has reported he wants around $11 million per season on a seven-year deal.

Elliotte Friedman has said the defenseman's preference is still a trade, while Detroit would prefer to sign him.

LeBrun has it right. GMs say they have no intention of trading a player all the time, right up until the phone rings with the right offer.

It's like a homeowner insisting the house isn't for sale while leaving the realtor's number on the fridge.

Detroit is 2-3-2 after a 2-1 win over Philadelphia on Thursday.

Pierre LeBrun: Re Simon Edvinsson: It was interesting that Shawn Horcoff told the Detroit media...he has no intention of trading [him]; of course, there's two sides to that; I still think...the longer it goes, a trade is still possible - SC with Jay Onrait (10/13)

Simon Edvinsson wants about $11M a year, per Pagnotta, and LeBrun says a trade is possible

Edmonton Journal columnist Jim Matheson has already named Anaheim and San Jose as the hottest suitors.

San Jose's Jacob Trouba and Dmitry Orlov both sit at -5, and Darnell Nurse is day-to-day.

Anaheim already carries Jackson Lacombe at $9,000,000, so Pat Verbeek knows exactly what a young top-pair defenseman costs.

Calgary allows a league-worst 5.0 goals a game, with Zayne Parekh at -10.

Columbus gives up 4.2 goals a game, and Erik Gudbranson sits at -4.

Nashville's Brady Skjei is at -5 on a $7,000,000 cap hit.

St. Louis leans on 34-year-old Cam Fowler, so Doug Armstrong could use a younger anchor.

New Jersey's Brenden Dillon is 35, and Tom Fitzgerald could use another long-term piece behind him.

LeBrun reported earlier this month that 10 teams have poked around.

Moritz Seider remains Detroit's highest-paid defenseman at $8,550,000, well below Edvinsson's reported ask.

If that many teams keep calling, how long can Horcoff hold the line?

Detroit hosts San Jose on Saturday, giving one of those potential suitors a front-row look at what it's missing.

Horcoff can keep saying no. Every week Edvinsson stays unsigned, the line he's holding gets a little thinner.
