The NHL has evolved in stat tracking and what stats are considered important. One such stat is even strength goals. As time has gone on strong play at even strength has become more important. This has revealed one of the most underrated forwards in today's NHL.
Skinner Touted As Elite Goal Scorer
Jeff Skinner has always been applauded for his offensive play but never has been considered a top-tier player in the NHL. According to even strength goals he needs to be in consideration for the best goal scorer in the league. He currently sits second since entering the league in even-strength goals behind only Alex Ovechkin.
The Ralph Kreuger Experiment
It is incredible that Skinner ranks this high considering the steep decline he saw under head coach Ralph Kreuger for two seasons. During those two years, he was demoted to the fourth line and constantly humiliated in the media by his head coach
Better Days Under Granato

Skinner is back to his elite-level play since Don Granato has taken over as head coach. He is a staple on the first line alongside superstar Tage Thompson and another underrated winger in Alex Tuch. The trio almost was able to propel the Sabres into a playoff spot in 2021-22. Heading into next season the league should be on notice for Jeff Skinner and appreciate his elite level scoring while they can.
