This past off-season, the Ottawa Senators were clearly frustrated with their goaltending situation, with GM Steve Staios making the bold move of trading for superstar goalie Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins. Through two appearances thus far, Ullmark has been the goaltender that Ottawa hoped they were acquiring, posting a .914 save percentage and a 2.58 GAA, but unfortunately, Ullmark has been dealing with an injury issue that has limited him to just two games.
Unfortunately, the latest update on his situation wasn't a positive one either, as the team announced that Anton Forsberg will be in net against the Utah Hockey Club, with the team looking to get to 4-2-0 on the season after a very promising start. It appears as though the team may get Ullmark back on the ice at some point during their road trip that takes them through Utah, Vegas and Colorado, but that return won't come as a part of the NHL's Frozen Frenzy.
The injury right now is being classed as a 'strain', and while there's confidence he could be back soon, that type of injury comes with a significant risk of re-injury, so it's something that those within the organization may need to keep a very close eye on. At 31-years of age, the team made a massive commitment to Ullmark as their goaltender of the future this off-season, so while an early season injury hurts, they believe they can bounce back and have success during his tenure.
We will continue to bring updates on the former Vezina Trophy winner as they come through, but for now, those hoping to see him in net against the exciting Utah Hockey Club will have to wait for another few days at least.
