Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin discussed the JT Miller trade today, revealing why he felt he had to make the move.

The controversy in Vancouver finally came to an end last night as the Canucks made a blockbuster trade with the New York Rangers.

Of course, that trade revolved around JT Miller, who the Canucks moved in an effort to end the season-long feud between him and fellow star center Elias Pettersson.

The rift between the two men has been well-documented this season, but the Canucks remain tight-lipped about the situation.

In his comments about the trade, Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin refused to acknowledge any feud between Miller and Pettersson, instead claiming that Miller told the team he needed a change of scenery for his own mental health and the wellbeing of his family.

"This was a conversation between myself and J.T. and his agent that started about two months ago with his health and the environment we had. During the time and during the discussions leading up to to yesterday, I felt that he probably needed a fresh start in where he was in his life and in his age, and with his family, that this was the best option for him."

Whether or not Allvin is telling the truth with this statement remains to be seen as the writing was pretty much on the wall for some time with this situation.

Furthermore, it is clear that Allvin had more moves in mind even before he dealt Miller to the Rangers as he pulled the trigger on another deal immediately afterwards.

The Canucks added another Pettersson to the team as well as a depth forward in a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins late last night.

Both of these moves come as the Canucks find themselves on the edge of the playoff bubble.

Surely, Allvin is hoping that these moves will move the needle enough to get his team back into the playoffs.

Whether or not that will be the case remains to be seen. Given how close the standings are, it may be some time before we get any clarity for the Canucks' fate this season.
