The New York Rangers just made a major announcement that has fans reacting

The New York Rangers released their full training camp roster Tuesday, and Matthew Rempe's name comes with an asterisk next to it.

Rempe is carrying a thumb injury that has him listed day to day, and it's already labeled questionable for the start of the season.

First full day on ice for the group is Thursday, which means Mike Sullivan gets his first real look at who's healthy and who isn't before puck drop matters.

Rempe posted just 1 point in 26 games last season, a bottom-six body who brings size more than scoring. Losing him for any stretch still costs the Rangers a physical presence up front.

This is a team that finished last season 34-39-9, good for 77 points and a 29th place ranking league-wide. That's not a number anyone in that room wants to see repeated.

Mika Zibanejad remains the engine here. He put up 78 points last season, tops on the roster, and he'll be counted on to carry the top six again.

Adam Fox quietly turned into a point machine too, piling up 53 points in just 55 games from the back end.

Igor Shesterkin's bounce-back season starts now

Shesterkin's numbers dipped last year. A .911 save percentage isn't bad, but it's not the level that made him a Vezina winner either.

Camp gives him a reset. New York's defense in front of him wasn't always clean, and Sullivan will be watching how that group tightens up before the games count.

Will Cuylle and Alexis Lafreniere both took steps forward offensively last season, and both need to hold that growth through camp competition for spots in the top nine.

GM Chris Drury built this roster with size and secondary scoring in mind, but a thumb injury to Rempe on day one of camp isn't the start anyone drew up.

Whether Rempe is ready by opening night is still unknown. Sullivan and his staff have a few weeks to figure it out, and the answer isn't coming this week.
