For a while, in January, the Habs looked like a team who reached the next level. But the massive injury to Kaiden Guhle and Emil Heineman's car accident left key holes in the lineup.
Since then, the team has struggled greatly, surely forcing the general manager Kent Hughes to take another route as we get closer to the trade deadline.
Indeed, he'll likely be looking to sell some assets at the trade deadline instead of making acquisitions before the playoffs.
The Habs have many players who have been gaining traction on the trade market, but it appears that two of them are getting a lot of interest from the rest of the league.
Last night, Montreal was in action in Los Angeles to face the Kings, and multiple reports confirmed that a whopping total of 19 teams sent scouts to the game, indicating that the Habs could part ways with some of their assets.
Per Renaud Lavoie:
According to Elliotte Friedman, both Jake Evans and Joel Armia's recent performances haven't gone unnoticed around the NHL:
Both Armia and Evans have been having great seasons, emerging as great options for a contending bottom-six and an effective pair on the penalty kill.
It's safe to say that Hughes won't trade any of them unless he can get a fair return, but considering they are both set to become free agents at the end of the season, and the Habs looking for a young player with high potential, a package deal with Armia and Evans could bring a lot back to Montreal.
